Embowaxed

Submitted by : Jorgen Bodde

This time an effect, which looks nice and is easy to make. I made this one on a rainy day, when I actually had to learn my exams... It's not that spectacular with "hidden" and difficult functions, but nice to try out..

add text 1. Create a 16,7 M image with 600x300 pixels, a white foreground and a black background.. The usual stuff.. :)

2. Type your text, with any particular font, I used "PickWick" and the pixelsize was 90. Don't release the selections, until it's been told.

add texture 3. Now, choose the brush-tool and set the pixelsize to 60 pixels. (If you use a smaller font, this value can also be smaller). Now set the brush-pattern to "Parchment".

4. Use the BACKGROUNDCOLOR to draw.. Try stroke your brush through the text, but don't release it! Just try to be artistic and paint those letters.. Don't paint too much... Leave some places uncovered, this will make a nice effect later on (To use the backgroundcolor, just use the right mousebutton instead of the left one)..

emboss 5. Is the selection still on ?? Allright.. Now apply an embossed effect, by choosing; "Image|Special Filters|Emboss"

dialate 6. Ok, now we are gonna make the pixels a bit more bigger, by choosing "Dilate" .. This is found in "Image|Special Filters|Dilate"

hot wax 7. Apply a "hot wax coating", by choosing "Image|Special Effects|Hot Wax Coating"..

colorize 8. Now choose colorize (I choosed hue 24 and sat 240, like the gold-effect) by selecting "Colors|Colorize"..

cutout 1 9. Almost done, now apply a cutout. First we do the white and after that the black because the roundings will be more natural. (The black will round off the white effect better). So, let's go.. We choose "Image|Special Effects|Cutout" and set the following values; Uncheck the interior, set the shadowcolor to "WHITE" and the opacity to 160. Also set the blur to 5. The horizontal and vertical offset must be set both to 5. Ok, now apply the effect..

Looks nice already!! Now, we apply it again for the dark side of the cutout..

cutout2 Choose the "Image|Special Effects|Cutout" again, and change the shadowcolor to "BLACK" and set the horizontal and vertical values both to "-5". Apply the effect again.. Well, doesn't that look kinda pretty ?

10. Now release the selection .. Do you want another step ?? Well, there ain't anymore left. You're DONE !!
