(Patti, Linda Cole is our guest lecturer tonight) Patti Salmon Figured that Patti Salmon Bingo, your stuff is really good!! Lori Davis Ouch! Paul Weekley Wow, thanks Karyn Hill WB Lori Lisa Wade (LOL) Lori Davis Let's see if I can stay for more than 5 minutes! Patti Salmon Somebody get Rodger a new face Patti Salmon Checking mail brb Patti Salmon Back Lori Davis Pat, are you hiding behind CJ? Pat Kalbaugh There...we both moved! Karyn Hill LOL Patti Salmon Lori Davis Well, shall we talk graphics while we wait for Linda? Lisa Wade Sure! Pat Kalbaugh I had a question that maybe you could enlighten me on. Patti Salmon How is the advanced class coming along...any nibbles Karyn Hill <---- is posting homework URL, and hoping to remember to actually put the URL this time Lori Davis hehe Pat Kalbaugh I went through this tutorial this afternoon but was unable to enter values other than whole number.. Pat Kalbaugh in other words, I coudn't enter a value like 3.3...just 3 or 4 Lori Davis Where, Pat? What step? Pat Kalbaugh Is there a preference that might change that? Pat Kalbaugh Let's see... Pat Kalbaugh When entering the drop shadow the blur factor was supposed to be 3.3..I could only enter 3 or 4 Pat Kalbaugh Tha'ts under step 3, I think and it happened in another dialog box also. Lori Davis Hmmm, I'm sure I can enter decimals. Not sure what's up Patti Salmon I'm cold Pat Kalbaugh It was really no big deal because it was close enough but I was just curious. Lori Davis Anyone have any ideas about that one? Pat Kalbaugh Hmmm, that's interesting if you can do it...do you have version 5.01? Lori Davis Yes, Pat -- if you don't, maybe that's the difference Pat Kalbaugh I also have version 5.01 Lori Davis Hmmm, I'm stymied... Pat Kalbaugh Oh well...another one of my screwball system problems maybe. Pat Kalbaugh Let's go on...I'll live with it. Patti Salmon La de da, la lala lets all sing!! Lori Davis Well, how about some other graphics questions/comments? (Maybe I'll have a clue this time *g*) Karyn Hill Was it the offset you couldn't make a decimal, or the blur? Paul Weekley Question? If there is an advanced PSP5 class, what would be covered? Lori Davis That's still being discussed, Paul Patti Salmon I hope it covers more animation Paul Weekley not specifically, just in general Lori Davis Can't even say in general at this point! Karyn Hill Pat, was it the blur or offset? Lisa Wade Any chance it will cover png format? Lori Davis Would you agree, Pat? Pat Kalbaugh It was the blur in the drop shadow box... Pat Kalbaugh I just noticed I *can* enter decimal values in the horizontal and vertical boxes allright Karyn Hill The blur you have to change with the little slide thing...you can only enter a specific decimal in the offset Lori Davis I'd love to look at PNG! Unfortunately, PSP 5 doesn't handle PNG all that well Patti Salmon I'm going to have to open another browser to keep from crashing, brb Lisa Wade I was hoping the next version will Lori Davis Pat, wait! You have to use the arrow keys to make fine adjustments! Pat Kalbaugh Thanks, Karyn...I think you're right.. Pat Kalbaugh OHHHHHH...Now I see! Thanks, you guys! Pat Kalbaugh Mystery solved! Karyn Hill Sort of a curious thing though, that it allows it in the offset and not the blur Pat Kalbaugh Yes it is curious, Karyn Lori Davis Karyn, did you try clicking the control and then using the arrow keys Karyn Hill Haven't tried that, I always just scoot the slide thing over Karyn Hill Cool, that works great! Lori Davis You can use the arrow keys for fine adjustments of brush size, too Pat Kalbaugh Oh...I see now, the ARROW keys! Pat Kalbaugh Learn something new all the time bout this program! Karyn Hill I've sure learned a few things the last few days Lori Davis Hey, everyone, I just saw that Linda is waiting for us! Everyone go to Tools | Locate and locate Linda Cole Lori Davis Then choose GO TO PLACE Lori Davis See you there! Lori Davis Drat, that didn't work! Paul Weekley oops Karyn Hill Hmmm Lori Davis Linda, are you here? Karyn Hill What the heck is all that? carol purcell what if linda tries coming here? Patti Salmon It says she is HERE Lori Davis But I don't see her carol purcell can't see her Patti Salmon Locate says she is here...what she is a dang ghost or something Pat Kalbaugh This happened to me once before, but I don't remember how we resolved it... Lori Davis I'll try to contact her Karyn Hill Let me see if I can leave the room, then locate and go to her Pat Kalbaugh Good idea, Karyn Lori Davis Any luck? Karyn Hill Sent me here Pat Kalbaugh Not yet. Lori Davis I'm talking with Linda. She and Annette are together but can't see us Patti Salmon Good god they are ghosts...call the x-files Karyn Hill LOL Karyn Hill I'll have to look for a Scully avatar carol purcell places to chat shows 2 valentine's heart rooms - one has 9 guests, one has two, but i can't seem to get there Peter Hewitt I'll make the coffee ... brb Pat Kalbaugh This happened when Eunice and I were doing a tutorial...can't remember how we worked it out but there is a way. Lori Davis I hope you remember, Pat. *g* Karyn Hill Perhaps they both need to leave at the same time, then try and enter by locating one of us? Patti Salmon Tell them to close down the VP chat, and re-enter alone. Pat Kalbaugh I'm ICQ'ing iwth Pat Kalbaugh ...with Eunice at the moment...brb Patti Salmon Don't use the locate -type in the actual url Lori Davis Linda is going to try logging off and coming back Pat Kalbaugh this goofy software! Karyn Hill Ah, this is better :o) carol purcell okay -- TYPE in the following url: http://psptips.com/zdu/ and you'll get to linda's room Pat Kalbaugh I wonder if it's because they used a slightly differnt URL ...like zdu/index.html carol purcell the url there is http://www.psptips.com/zdu - maybe that's the difference carol purcell here there's no www Linda Cole ahhhhh. and Lori made it. Lori Davis Linda! Linda Cole Looks like everyone is coming over. :) carol purcell ta da !! Annette Kirscher Yeah! I'm no longer the group. (LOL) Patti Salmon What the heck is the difference...are there two rooms?? Peter Hewitt it's ok - I've brought the coffee with me Paul Weekley Beam there scottie Linda Cole Really strange. There is just one room...... or should be. Lori Davis Phew! Now we can finally start if you're ready, Linda Linda Cole LOL. Are we all here? carol purcell the difference is the www Lori Davis I think we're all here Linda Cole Ok, Annette, you can start over or wait for us to catch up. Lori Davis Except for Par Lori Davis oops Pat *** Tutorial begins *** Lori Davis Before we begin... Annette Kirscher I'll wait...... Lori Davis If anyone has questions while Linda is talking, please type a ? and wait for me to call on you. OK? Karyn Hill K Patti Salmon k Lisa Wade k Annette Kirscher K Denise Craven k Paul Weekley k Peter Hewitt k Lori Davis OK *g* GA, Linda Linda Cole Before we get started, does everyone have the required fonts for the image? Paul Weekley Yes Denise Craven Yep Karyn Hill Yep Peter Hewitt yes Patti Salmon yup Lori Davis yes Lisa Wade yes Annette Kirscher yes Linda Cole If I should get to going to fast for anyone, throw something at me. :) (or at Lori, she'll tell me) Lori Davis Yes, i will *g* Linda Cole Let's start by opening a new window, approx. 150x150 with a white background. Patti Salmon k Pat Kalbaugh brb but go ahead without me. Linda Cole Immediately add a new layer to your image. Linda Cole Toggle the control pallets on by hitting tab. Hold the shift key in and press the new layer button on the new layer control palette. Paul Weekley Do we name it anything, the new layer Lori Davis Paul, you didn't type ? You don't need a name Karyn Hill *chuckles* Patti Salmon Bad boy Paul Linda Cole I don't usually name my layers. You can name it if you like. Paul Weekley Simon says I'm sorry Annette Kirscher (LOL) Linda Cole Notice how your layer control palette now has an extra button labled "Layer 1"? That's the layer we're going to be working in right now. Linda Cole Is everyone with us so far? Karyn Hill Yep Peter Hewitt yep Patti Salmon yes Annette Kirscher I'm there Lisa Wade yes Lori Davis yes Paul Weekley !yes Linda Cole Carol, Dave, Denise.... are you caught up to where we are? Denise Craven yes, finally Dave Van Thull Not sure. I got disconnected and just came back so lost the thread Linda Cole Dave, we have gotten as far as adding the new layer, first para in Step 1 Dave Van Thull ok Linda Cole Okay, then let's add our heart to the image. Linda Cole Open your Text tool and make the following selections: Linda Cole Font: Webdings Barbara Wilson made it! Karyn Hill ? Lori Davis Yes, Karyn, ga Karyn Hill Any color in particular, or our choice? Linda Cole Color doesn't matter right now, you'll be working with the text float box unchecked, so color won't show. Karyn Hill Okies Linda Cole Size: 100 (You'll notice that the Size slider only goes to 72. To set the font size to 100, type 100 in the box above the size settings). Linda Cole Antialias: checked Keystroke: Y Floating: unchecked Dave Van Thull I'm with you Denise Craven ok Karyn Hill :o) Linda Cole Don't de-select your heart. // Is everyone else with us? Peter Hewitt yes Lori Davis yes Lisa Wade yes Pat Kalbaugh yes Annette Kirscher yes Barbara Wilson no, but I'll catch up Dave Van Thull yes Linda Cole Does everyone know how to change the colors on the Color Palette? Paul Weekley !YES, AND YES Lisa Wade yes Karyn Hill Y Barbara Wilson yes Dave Van Thull y Denise Craven y Annette Kirscher y Pat Kalbaugh y Lori Davis I think so ;^) Linda Cole Ok then, let's change the forground color to Red : 192, Green : 0, Blue : 192 Linda Cole There's more than one way to add color to our heart. We could have done it with a gradient starburst fill, but instead I chose to add the color by applying a cutout. Linda Cole Let's go ahead and do the cutout now, specifying the following settings for the cutout: Linda Cole Fill Interior: Unchecked Shadow Color : Foreground Color Opacity: 100 Blur : 84.6 Horizontal: 1 Vertical: 1 Linda Cole To add an outline to the selection click on Selections | Modify | Expand and set the # of pixels to 2. Linda Cole Right now all you'll see is that the marque has moved away from the edge of the heart by 2 pixels. Annette Kirscher got it Karyn Hill :o) Lisa Wade k Dave Van Thull what is the marquee. Is that the edge highlight Lori Davis k Peter Hewitt k Lori Davis Yes, Dave, the "marching ants" Barbara Wilson gotcha Patti Salmon k Annette Kirscher LOL Paul Weekley My blur is 84, hope that's close enough Patti Salmon same here Linda Cole That should be fine Paul. Linda Cole To get the outline we need to add a hot wax coating, using white as the foreground color on the color palette. Go ahead and change the foreground color on the color palette. Linda Cole Apply the hot wax coating twice. Linda Cole Finally we can de-select this image. :) Peter Hewitt ? Lori Davis Yes, Peter Peter Hewitt I've never been able to work out the connect between the colour and the wax Lori Davis Linda, ga Lori Davis Or I'll field that one Linda Cole White foreground retains the colors of the image, for the most part. Other foreground colors will color the wax. You can probably add a lot more to that Lori. :) Lori Davis Maybe in a class tip! Peter Hewitt ty Lori Davis Let's continue Linda Cole It would make a good tip. Lots of folks have problems with the color/wax. Pat Kalbaugh (Wave) Lori Davis Pat Pat Kalbaugh I'm getting a much darker hot wax tonight than I did this afternoon... Pat Kalbaugh any ideas? Linda Cole Pat, is your foreground color white? Pat Kalbaugh yes, it's white Paul Weekley ? I applied two coats of wax, deselected, but I don't see anything other than the text Pat Kalbaugh It worked fine this afternoon. just not now. Just curious. Lori Davis Wait a sec Paul Linda Cole Pat, are you in 16 million colors? Pat Kalbaugh yes...16.mil Pat Kalbaugh Let's go on...I'll work it out later. Lori Davis OK. Paul, ga Lori Davis Paul, you didn't get an outline? Lori Davis Guess Paul's not ready now. Let's continue Linda Cole okay Paul Weekley no outline Paul Weekley continue anyway Lori Davis OK Linda Cole let's add another layer and pull up the text tool again. Setting for the text tool need to be as follows: Linda Cole Font: Fleurons Size: 48 Antialias : Checked Keystroke: n Floating : Unchecked Linda Cole Again, all this does is give us the floating marque, so we need to add some color to it. This time change the foreground color on the color palette to: Linda Cole Red : 128 Green : 0 Blue : 128 Annette Kirscher got it. Peter Hewitt ? Lori Davis Yes, Peter Peter Hewitt r u waiting for an acknowledge after each step? Linda Cole Not really, I was just ready to post the next step when your ? came up. :) What's best Lori, wait for an ok from everyone, or just go on after a time? Lori Davis I think you can continue unless you think folks might be falling behind. Everyone, notice the bubble when someone is typing Lori Davis Linda had a bubble above her head, showing that she was about to post Peter Hewitt ty Annette Kirscher y Lori Davis OK, let's ga Linda Cole The new color is just a little darker than the heart. This makes the dropshadow stand out a little better. Linda Cole Now add a drop shadow. Color: Foreground Color Opacity:100 Blur: 3.3 Vertical:1 Horizontal :1 Linda Cole De-select the text. With the Mover tool, position the fleuron at the top left side of the heart. For the fleuron on the other side, all we have to do is a copy/paste, Linda Cole and then mirror the image. ;) Linda Cole Press CTRL+C to copy the layer, and CTRL+L to paste it as a new layer. Click on Image | Mirror to reverse the fleuron and then position it at the top right of the heart. Lori Davis This time let's say OK when we're each ready! Peter Hewitt ok Annette Kirscher ok Lori Davis ok Dave Van Thull ok Barbara Wilson ok Pat Kalbaugh OK Lori Davis How's everyone else doing? Lisa Wade k Patti Salmon k Lori Davis GA, Linda Linda Cole In the next step, we do basically the same as we just did, only with a different fleuron. Linda Cole Start by adding another new layer, and open the text dialog box. We need to make one change to our settings. The keystroke "n" should be changed to the keystroke "i". Linda Cole All other setting remain the same.Font:Fleurons Size:48 Antialias:Checked Keystroke: i Floating:Unchecked Denise Craven ok Peter Hewitt ok Lori Davis ok Dave Van Thull ok Annette Kirscher k Barbara Wilson got it Patti Salmon Doing fine here Lori Davis Let's continue Linda Cole Add your dropshadow to make the fleuron "show", and de-select the text. With the Mover tool, position the flueron so that it covers the bottom left of the heart. Lisa Wade k Linda Cole For the fleuron on the other side, do a quick copy/paste and mirror the image. Move it into position with the Mover tool. Peter Hewitt ok Annette Kirscher k Lori Davis ok Barbara Wilson ok Lisa Wade k Denise Craven k Linda Cole The tutorial shows making a duplicate of your image. You may do so if you want to , but it's not necessary. Linda Cole I usually like to have a duplicate handy incase I want to try different effects on the same image. (Also it's a throwback to PSP4 which didn't allow you to make multiple undo's). :) Linda Cole For the next step, we need to merge all of our layers. Click on Layers | Merge | Merge All Denise Craven k Lisa Wade k Peter Hewitt k Annette Kirscher k Barbara Wilson k Linda Cole Okay, time to add the background color. Change the Background color on the Color Palette to: Red : 169 Green : 255 Blue : 211 Linda Cole Select the Selection Tool, (the one that looks like a rectangle made from a dashed line), and specify the following settings: Linda Cole Selection Type : Ellipse Feather : 0 Dave Van Thull still there Dave Van Thull (Idea) Peter Hewitt k Dave Van Thull ok Barbara Wilson ok Lori Davis k Annette Kirscher k Lisa Wade k Linda Cole Position the cursor just below the center line (top to bottom) and in the exact center (left to right). Linda Cole Hold your primary mouse button in and drag out your selection until it is almost to the edges of the window. Linda Cole On the menu bar, click on Selections | Modify | Feather and set the feather to 20 pixels. Linda Cole Right now, the heart is the selected area, we need to invert that, so press CTRL + Shift + i on your keyboard. Now hit the delete key once. Annette Kirscher k Peter Hewitt k Denise Craven Oooo! Linda Cole Hopefully you've all got the green background color now. :) Denise Craven yup Barbara Wilson ok Lisa Wade wow Lori Davis k Linda Cole We need to add one last layer for the text to go on, and we need to switch the foreground and background colors on the color palette. Annette Kirscher pretty Linda Cole select your text tool and click once on the canvas to get the text dialog box open Linda Cole This time we need to change the font, so under the Font Type select Hancock. Set the size to 18, leave antialias checked but this time also put a check in floating. Linda Cole Type Be My Valentine, putting Be My on one line and Valentine on the second line. Linda Cole If you don't split the text this way, the result will be too long to fit inside of your working window. Annette Kirscher k Dave Van Thull k Peter Hewitt k Lori Davis k Denise Craven k Lisa Wade k Barbara Wilson k Linda Cole Now for our finishing touches. :) To get the text to slant across the canvas, select the deformation tool. Linda Cole Holding your shift key in, position your cursor over the center top handle and drag to the right a little bit. Linda Cole Using the handle in the direct center of the bounding box, rotate the area counter clock-wise. When you're satisfied with the look, double click in the center of the box. Peter Hewitt k Annette Kirscher k Barbara Wilson k Lori Davis k Dave Van Thull k Denise Craven k Linda Cole Add a dropshadow, changing only the color of the shadow to the background color, and the Blur to 0.8. Leave all other settings as they were. Linda Cole De-select the text and use the Move tool to move the text into position in the lower right corner. Linda Cole That's it! Save your image. Lori Davis Wonderful! carol purcell bravo! Barbara Wilson This is great fun! Annette Kirscher Did It. (Wink) Denise Craven ? Lori Davis Thanks so much, Linda. Peter Hewitt ty Linda - nice work Lori Davis Yes, Denise Denise Craven Why won't it let me input the decimal values? Linda Cole Thanks all for coming. Barbara Wilson Thank you Linda, really enjoyed it! Annette Kirscher Me too! No decimal allowed Linda Cole Denise, use the slider.
